Miami Tower Illuminates Black, Green and Gold, Friday E-mail

On Friday (August 6), at dusk, the Miami Tower, formerly the Bank of America Tower, at International Place, downtown in Miami, will illuminate in the black, green and gold colours of the Jamaican flag, in celebration of Jamaica's 48th anniversary of Independence.

The Miami landmark will remain lit into Monday morning (August 9), as a tribute to the positive impact of the Jamaican community in South Florida.

Built in 1987, the 47-floor landmark tower is usually lit for special events in Miami. For the fourth consecutive year, the Jamaican community has been honoured with the significant gesture.

Jamaica's Consul General, Sandra Grant Griffiths, said that the ceremonial lighting is "a wonderful public gesture by Corporate America, and specifically Bank of America." She said that Jamaicans looked forward to see the Jamaican colours light up the Miami skyline, annually.

The lighting of the landmark Tower serve as a powerful symbol of the positive impact made by the presence of the Jamaican community, not only in Miami, but throughout South Florida. More than 500,000 Jamaicans reside in Florida, with the largest concentration in the South Florida tri-county area including Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.

Marlon Hill, the Jamaican Diaspora Board Member for the Southern USA, also lauded the event, indicating that the significant gesture in downtown Miami is a reminder and symbol of hope for the people of Jamaica.

"Our community is continuing to make its mark at varied levels across South Florida," he told JIS News.

The Miami Tower houses a wide range of modern office and communications infrastructure, overlooking downtown Miami and Biscayne Bay, and is widely recognised for its changing palette of exterior lighting schemes, timed to coincide with holidays and significant occasions.

E-JAM Employment Jamaica Limited was nominated along with Digicel and Claro in the run-up for the Best Booth Competition at the Jamaica Employment Federation’s (JEF) 2009 Convention held at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa May 21-24.

Designed as a free moving space so participants could walk in and out easily by Tyrone Lindsay, Visual Design Consultant and his team, E-JAM’S concept of a Free Internet Café attracted many participants and exhibitors who were drawn to the services being offered by E-JAM, the booth colours, and booth design.

The booth was dramatically brought to life in the E-JAM/Jamaica colours of green and yellow. In keeping with the company’s mission “Putting Jamaica to Work” the Internet Café provided the medium through which E-JAM launched their “One-Stop Career On-line Service” at the Convention offering Free Wireless Internet Access to the attendees...

E-JAM also provided free resume, career advice, and discounted rates to employers to post jobs vacancies online. Special prizes included a gift from Evita’s Italian Restaurant – for “Dinner for Two and a gift of two tickets from Mystic Mountain theme park.

Participants and exhibitors alike checked their emails and browsed the internet.  Others explored E-JAM’s website noting the features to submit resumes online, to post job vacancies and to search E-JAM’s database for job applicants.

One human resource manager from a government ministry (name with-held by request) acknowledged while browsing E-JAM’s online employer packages that the ministry was experiencing difficulty filling some science based positions, because of the nature of those particular jobs.  She said that she had to think seriously now about going online for international candidates to fill such positions.

E-JAM, Employment Jamaica is an international employment and career organization serving the needs of employers and jobseekers. They also specialize in the recruitment of Jamaican workers - filling positions for unskilled, skilled, clerical and executive posts in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.
E-JAM has a state of the art website with an interactive employer and jobseeker interface. It is now into its fifth year of operation and maintains a high rank in the internet search engines.

E’JAM’s goal is to get human resource and industrial relations managers to use their online recruitment facilities - because its faster, there is a database of highly qualified applicants available and it’s more cost-effective.

Digicel won the award for the best booth with Seprod winning the award for the most creative booth.
