Did you know that 80% of jobseekers upload resumes and search jobs online?

This article is a follow up to my previous article “Putting Jamaicans to Work”.
With the unemployment rate at its worst, Jamaican jobseekers are finding alternative ways to find employment, one such way is the use of online recruitment.

The internet is now considered the most internationally recognized efficient tool, for job search, recruiting, career resources, e-learning and career advancement. This internet resource is grossly under used in Jamaica.

Many Jamaican employers are not taking advantage of the Web to recruit and therefore they are not reaping the benefit of meeting potential employees searching for jobs online.

River Island turns to online recruitment
25/11/2008 10:12:00

High street fashion retailer River Island has turned to online recruitment to hire sales staff for its 200 stores across the country.

This is the first time the company has used online recruitment in this way and it is hoped the initiative will help reduce costs as well as ensure that the best quality people are employed, Onrec.com reports.

Lisa Astbury, director of Changeworknow, highlighted the benefits of hiring through the internet, saying: "More and more information is online and employers will miss out on talent if they don’t tap into online recruitment."

E-JAM’s website database, www.employmentjamaica.com, now contains over 6,000.00 jobseekers who posted their resumes and thousands more who have registered on our website enquiring about jobs.   Many are qualified in a variety of career fields ranging from highly skilled technical and management positions to general jobs.  The educational level of our online jobseekers are as follows: Degrees - $50.5%, Certification – 25%, High School – 22.5%, Other – 2%.  It proves that jobseekers that search the web are generally more proficient with computers, educated, talented and well-rounded.  The website is now into its fifth year of operation and maintains a high rank in the internet search engines.
Employers/recruiters - locating ideal candidates can be a time consuming and labor intensive process – It is quicker, easier and more cost effective to do it online.  E-JAM invites you to let the web work for you - POST JOB ADS AND SEARCH RESUMES on www.employmentjamaica.com.
