A great salesman recently told me that the most important thing in sales is the plan, not so much ability or skills, but that written plan outlining what you hope to achieve and how you go about getting your objectives met. As such E-JAM has devised just such a plan for what we will be covering right here on our blog in the coming days and weeks.

Since the recession is still heavy on the lips of Jamaicans, and especially those Jamaicans seeking employment, we will be tackling such issues relating to the recession and how it affects Jamaica. For example the layoffs in the tourist industry as a result of the fall off in tourist arrivals from our main market in the USA. As well as the new H2B laws and how the resulting reduction in the number of Jamaicans working overseas reduces the amount of remittance inflows to Jamaica.

Job seekers, don’t despair, we have you covered. With a wide variety of topics geared towards “Putting Jamaica to Work”, we will be tackling various issues, the aim of the articles is to show you how minor changes in behaviour and how we think can bring about an improvement, not only professionally, but also in our personal lives as well. Below is a list of some of the topics to be discussed in the coming weeks.

•    An attitude change
•    Learning new skills (such as becoming computer literate)
•    Sharpening present skills
•    Volunteering (it’s not just for clubs anymore)
•    Ideas on how to get a job
•    Dressing for Success  (not only for interviews but on the job also)
•    Presentation Skills

Employers and Entrepreneurs won’t be left out as we recognize that they will be instrumental in order for Jamaica to pull through this productive slump it is in. The idea being that if we work from both ends we can create a more efficient labour force which will then result in not only more income, but also more jobs will be created, as well as an increased need for entrepreneurs. Articles for employers will touch on corruption, the creation of different shift systems, retraining staff, and more, including the entrepreneur’s need to think BIG and to consider themselves as a business, not just another business man/woman.

Essentially therefore, we will be touching on everything related to careers in Jamaica, from the initial job search, through the interview stage and even what to do after the search is ended and you have left the ranks of the unemployed. Our aim is to provide the most reliable information as it relates to employment as well as developments and updates as they come along. So come join us on our quest as we go about “putting Jamaica to Work”.
